St. Joseph's Social Service Centre
St. Joseph's Social Service Centre took its birth in the year 1981 with seven students on its rolls under the inspiring guidance and kind support of Rev. Fr. Ignatius Moloparambil. With the able and dedicated service of Sr. Juliet CMC the instructor, the tailoring centre grew into its present dimension providing a useful means of occupation to the poor village girls residing in Baramulla.
At present there are seventeen girls getting training in cutting, tailoring and embroidery. Timely classes are also given on cooking, health and hygiene etc. Awareness programs are conducted on house keeping and other important things necessary for their daily lives. These girls are guided to build up the their confidence and the capacity to face the unforeseen.
May 18, 1984 was a great day in the annals of St. Joseph's Service Centre. It was the day which marked the farewell of the first batch of students who successfully completed three years of training. Each trainee after completing here course was provided wiht a cash of Rs. 1000 and a sewing machine to help her start a career of her own.
The girls started making school uniforms in the year 1985 with an electronic embroidery machine presented to the social service center by Rev. Fr. Ignatius and Fr. Dominic Thirunilath. All the Rev. Principals took greater care in the growth and development of the centre. The then Bishop, Hippolytus Kunnukal, visited and appreciated the work done at the centre. Picnic is an exposure part of the training where the girls themeselves collect money, cook and share what they have with each othe.
The social service centre stands as a solace and hope for the poor girls at the locality in finding a means for their livelihood. It grows under the able guidance of Rev. Sr. Sheenet CMC and is directed by the principal.
